Adacta sponsors the 8th European Congress of Mathematics
From 21 to 26 June 2021, the Slovenian coast will host the 8th European Congress of Mathematics (8ECM). It is expected to draw more than 1170 participants from 78 different countries. The European Congress of Mathematics is organized by the European Mathematical Society (EMS) every four years and is the world’s second-largest mathematics event.
This year, the organization of the congress was entrusted to the University of Primorska, in collaboration with all active mathematical institutions in Slovenia. Participants will choose among 1050 talks and over 60 mini-symposia. Thanks to the donors and sponsors, congress will grant 105 scholarships to outstanding students. Despite its focus on learning and sharing knowledge, congress does a remarkable job in connecting the worlds of education and business.
Mathematical challenges in insurance
Adacta joins the congress as a sponsor of insurance-focused mini-symposia organized by Mihael Perman together with Claudia Klüppelberg, TU München, Thomas Mikosch, Bor Harej, PRS Prime Re Solutions AG, University of Copenhagen, Ermanno Pitacco, University of Trieste, and Tomaž Košir, University of Ljubljana. The mini-symposia will focus on risk modelling in insurance.
“The speakers will discuss modelling challenges and more fundamental questions of machine learning applications. There has been a rising trend in weather related claims stretching the capacity of (re)insurance to its limits. Complex mathematical models to adjust for trends and assist with pricing in non-life insurance is yet another challenge for mathematical modelling,” reads the lecture introduction outline.
